Character Name: Broly
Canon: Dragon Ball Super
Canon Point: Right as he’s being teleported back to Vampa by Cheelai’s wish on the Dragon Balls.
Character Age: 49, however Saiyans age more slowly than humans so despite being almost fifty, Broly looks at least twenty years younger.
History: Wiki link here
Division: Support-Broly is leery of trying to fight again even weakened, as he knows he runs the risk of losing control of himself, but after a lifetime spent on Vampa he has very little in the way of skills. As Support, he will do what he can around the ship, and would absolutely leap at the chance to look after any animals or care for them. If the Theorem ever needs a dedicated animal wrangler, Broly would like very much to be that person.
Edict: The Fathomless-for the first time in his life, Broly is lost, without relying on his father Paragus or the support of friends like Cheelai, Lemo, or even Goku. This has left Broly without a purpose and unsure of his own desires, and so he has no choice but to plunge ahead into the darkness to discover that answer for himself. And like the Fathomless is represented by a Kraken, Broly too has the potential within him to become a beast of absolute ruin and destruction.
Powers:
Ki Manipulation-Broly has been taught to harness his own body’s energy and channel it in a variety of ways. The most basic of which is the ability to fly, a trick Saiyans learn very young, and how to channel his energy into destructive ki blasts, which he can fire from his palms, throw with his hands, or even shoot from his mouth.
Wrathful State-Because Saiyans evolved as a warrior race, their bodies have the unique physiology to grow stronger after defeat. While healing, their body adapts to the damage they took and not only becomes more resistant to it but also causes their strength to grow. Broly, however, is an anomaly in that he can directly grow stronger as he fights, without waiting for his body to heal. The longer Broly is engaged in battle, the stronger he becomes. However, this is a two-pronged sword because it also becomes increasingly harder for Broly to keep his anger in check, which required Paragus to use a shock collar (which Broly no longer wears, and for which the control device was destroyed by Cheelai). Eventually, this combination of power growth and anger will combine to send Broly into what is known as his “Wrathful” state; where he adds the strength of the Saiyan Great Ape (when Saiyans are transformed by the light of a full moon into a building-sized giant ape) to his own while retaining his own form. When this threshold is reached, Broly’s hair will stand up and turn spiky, but retain its natural black colour. This also represents him on the very edge of sanity; his self-control hangs by a thread.
Super Saiyan-Triggered by Frieza during Broly’s fight with Goku, the rage and anguish Broly experienced from seeing his father dead (secretly killed by Frieza) caused Broly to achieve the legendary status of Super Saiyan. With the power of Super Saiyan added to his already prodigious strength from entering his Wrathful form beforehand, Broly became an almost-unstoppable force of destruction, capable of fighting both Goku and Vegeta in Super Saiyan Blue (a transformation several magnitudes of power higher than Super Saiyan) to a standstill. The very act of transforming into a Super Saiyan devastated the surrounding landscape as the energy released by it rained down on the battlefield. Eventually, Broly’s power continued to grow in this fight until he reached his Super Saiyan Full Power form, in which his muscles grow and swell to such a degree he shattered his Frieza Force breastplate (this is the form most analogous to the “Legendary Super Saiyan” Broly of the non-canon Z films). However, by this point Broly had lost all sense of reason or sense of self; he was so overcome by grief and rage that he’d turned into a complete berserker, which Goku and Vegeta capitalized on by escaping the battlefield while Broly turned on Frieza (ostensibly his boss) and fought him for an hour before Goku and Vegeta were able to successfully fuse into Gogeta and return. Broly also lost any fighting technique or skill he had, relying purely on brute force and overwhelming strength. Once Gogeta turns Super Saiyan Blue, Broly does not manage to land a single hit on him for the rest of the fight. It wasn’t until he was utterly exhausted by the fight that Broly’s sense of self returned.
I recognize these powers are incredibly OP, but they are balanced by two facts; the first is that Broly would need to regain them first, and he is not in any hurry to do that. Goku is able to intuit that Broly’s heart isn’t really in the fight and that he doesn’t actually enjoy it, but is only going through with it to please Paragus. Free from his father’s influence and painfully aware of how dangerous he was, it is extremely unlikely Broly would want to take that power back, lest he risk hurting others. He might go so far as to get back Wrathful, but only if events in-game lead him to believe he can control himself in it. However, if some weird space event forces him into Super Saiyan (hint, hint) that could also make for an interesting development. Also, Broly has to be actively fighting to keep his power high; it will rapidly decrease back to normal levels the longer he is out of a fight, which is another difference between him and other Saiyans (so Broly in Theorem does not retain the power levels he got from the fight with Goku, Vegeta, and Frieza)
As the Ascendants deemed your character worthy of being on this exploration voyage, what qualities did they observe in your character that they found appropriate for the mission?
In his current position, Broly is a blank slate. He has the potential for great power, but how that power can be used or directed is right now a big fat question mark with the death of his father, and will depend very much on his interactions with other Wayfarers and the directions they help nudge him in.
What is your character's best quality, what is their worst, and how do these two qualities affect each other?
Broly’s best quality is in fact the same as his worst quality; he is innocent. Paragus raised Broly to be completely psychologically dependant upon him, and to put his desires above his own, and that conditioning doesn’t go away just because Paragus is dead. Broly isn’t a bad guy, Goku says as much while they’re fighting, but his dependence on Paragus saw him willingly enter the service of Frieza, a tyrant who has plundered entire planets and ground much of the universe under his heel, and fight Goku and Vegeta because his father was obsessed with taking revenge against a man already long-dead (Vegeta’s father, King Vegeta, ruler of Planet Vegeta, the Saiyan homeworld). He’s a kind soul, who likes rearing animals and successfully tamed one of Vampa’s giant dog worms as a pet when he was a child, but is also easily susceptible to those of a strong will and ill intent because he has so little motivation of his own that didn’t come from pleasing his father. He is helped by his desire to figure out what it is he wants, but could still fall under the sway of bad influences easily.
Your character's Edict appears in front of them, and agrees to grant them one wish: what does your character wish for?
Unfortunately, as he is now, Broly’s main wish would probably be to bring his father back. Even though he’s started to nose around the idea that Paragus wasn’t a good father to him (mostly by seeing how Cheelai and others called him out for his treatment of Broly), he still loves his father very much and the grief and rage Broly felt over his death is what pushed him to reach Super Saiyan.
The Theorem has broken down, and is drifting toward a black hole. There is very little hope of outside rescue. What does your character do?
Since Broly has no idea how to work tech, he would do what he could to try and keep people calm, which might not be much, though given how emotionally stunted and stoic he tends to be, that alone might be a calming presence. If it looked like the Theorem was indeed done for, on some level Broly would probably accept this is a good thing considering how dangerous he is, and would quietly accept his fate. At least he’d get to see his dad again, he hopes.
